In addition to spotlights and under cabinet LED lights in the kitchen - don’t forget to include  decorative lighting to bring personality and style into your kitchen.  

We all spend lots of time visiting kitchen showrooms, thumbing through lifestyle magazines and browsing websites to decide on our new  kitchen style or gadgets we can have. But how much time do we consider lighting products and the impact they may create?

Most kitchen designers will encourage you to have practical spotlights in your ceiling and practical under cabinet LED lights, but these are only part of the lighting solution.  If you have the option to bring in more personality and sparkle – consider decorative lighting as part of the lighting mix to create mood and drama.

Whats your Style?

Whether it is a traditional country kitchen with hand crafted cabinets, a modern minimalistic or industrial influenced style, there are many decorative lights available to suit. Choose a light that has a metal finish that blends in or perhaps contrasts with the architectural elements in the room such as cabinet handles or taps.

Choose lighting to suit your space

If you have the luxury of space and have an island or breakfast bar – consider hanging multiple pendants above to provide additional task lighting or a lower level of light output when the spotlights are not required. You may have a low ceiling so choose from a large collection of flush or semi-flush fixtures for this situation.  

Blend in or stand out?

With the continuing trend of open plan kitchen/dining spaces you may wish to include a range of lights that have matching pendants and chandeliers to bring the space together.  Alternatively you may want to choose a sculptural or sparkly chandelier over a nice dining table that becomes a statement of your personality.
